ICON (Iowa Courses Online): Learning Management System

ICON is the learning management system that instructors can use to provide course materials, assignments, tests, and more. It's powered by Canvas. 

ICON Direct: Specific eTexts and Online Learning Platforms

ICON Direct is the University of Iowa's initiative for ordering digital content from specific publishers and delivering this content to students and faculty. Students can access eTexts and homework platforms ordered through this program directly from their ICON course. 

UICapture (Panopto): Video Recording, Editing and Storage

UICapture, also known as Panopto, can record, edit, store, and share videos, and it connects well with ICON. 

Gradescope: Feedback and Grading Tool

Gradescope makes it possible to electronically grade paper assignments. Some assignments may need to be scanned uploaded by students, or Gradescope can be used for things like bubble sheet tests that faculty upload.

Elements of Success: Data About Your Grades

Elements of Success is a tool developed at the University of Iowa that gives students real-time feedback about their course performance. It can help students succeed by providing a space to set goals, reflect on their course performance, and think about ways they can improve or maintain their grades.

Anthology Ally: Accessibility Tools

This accessibility tool allows students to access course files in alternative formats. 

Peerceptiv: Peer Feedback

Peerceptiv is a tool that allows students to give each other anonymous feedback on papers, presentations, and group projects.

Pressbooks: Online Book Creation

Pressbooks is a Wordpress based platform that allows users to publish e-books. Pressbooks can be used to house textbooks and students can use Pressbooks to collaborate on projects, or create individual books. 

Read&Write: Accessibility Tool

Read&Write makes it easier to understand text files and online articles through text-to-speech, note-taking functions, dictionaries, highlighters, and checks for spelling, grammar. It provides substantial support when writing papers, proofreading written work, and researching assignments. 

Respondus Lockdown Browser: Test Security

Respondus Lockdown Browser is separate browser instructors can require for tests and quizzes that allows students to access only the test and approved tools while talking the test.

Top Hat: In-Class Quizzes and Participation

Top Hat allows instructors to present questions in class that students answer on their devices. A few courses offer course materials through the platform, as well. Top Hat is available through ICON Direct

Turnitin: Plagiarism Detection

Turnitin provides plagiarism detection and other writing tools.
