If using the ICON Direct RedShelf eReader, please familiarize yourself with the ICON Direct platform before the first day of class.
In the navigation menu at the left of the course home page, click on “ICON Direct eTexts” to open the RedShelf eReader. The RedShelf eReader works best when viewed in Chrome or Firefox.
To add the ICON Direct eTexts to your course. (Only applicable to courses selecting an eText, not an online learning platform.)
- Log into ICON, enter the appropriate course site.
- Click Settings and Navigation
- Locate and enable the “ICON Direct eTexts” tool. Click Save. If you see an error message after adding the ICON Direct reader to your course navigation, the publisher materials have not been connected to your course yet. Contact the ITS Help Desk.
- Introduce the ICON Direct eReader to your students. See the eReader User Guide to learn more.
- Explain how to use the reader’s Q&A tools to highlight and tag passages of text to help students find important information.
- Consider linking to the ICON Direct documentation site.
A minimal amount of instructor experience with ICON Direct makes a difference. View the ICON Direct help menu to learn about the basics of navigating and using the features of the platform, or contact the ITS Help Desk for a one-on-one session.
