Group projects teach valuable skills but setting them up and keeping them on track can demand a significant amount of an instructor’s time. That means forming groups, keeping track of who contributed what, and giving feedback to every team. Peerceptiv can handle group formation, peer review, team member evaluations, and live presentation scoring, so you spend less time on logistics.
Form working groups
Students have different schedules, interests, and strengths. With Peerceptiv, instructors can create a short survey asking about whatever matters for your groups, such as availability or experience with the topic. It takes a couple of minutes to complete the survey, and Peerceptiv then divides students into groups and sends the group list to ICON.
Peer review
Students submit their group’s paper, slides, poster, recording, or any other file for review. Instructors build the rubric and set how many reviews each student completes. Peerceptiv assigns the reviews and gives students a space to leave comments, which are collected and released to the authors so they can revise their work before resubmitting.
A dashboard shows instructors exactly who has finished their reviews and can send reminders to anyone who hasn’t. Instructors can also see average scores across the class and read individual reviews, which helps you check what kind of feedback students are giving each other and catch outliers.
Team member evaluation
Group projects raise an obvious question: did everyone pull their weight? The team member evaluation tool has students rate themselves and their teammates on criteria chosen by instructors, such as participation, communication, quality of work, or reliability.
Because several people evaluate each team member, you get more than one perspective on how the team worked. The results show who contributed most, which groups might need support, and where a grade adjustment is warranted. Students also know up front what’s expected of them.
Live presentation review
In a large class, it’s hard to give every presenter detailed feedback. With Peerceptiv, students score presentations as they happen using your rubric, from a laptop, tablet, or phone. It works for research talks, teaching demos, poster sessions, or final presentations.
Scores and comments are collected automatically, allowing each presenting group to hear from many classmates instead of just the instructor. You can see participation rates, scores, and written comments on the Peerceptiv dashboard.
