ICON has different options for sharing video with students. Uploading video directly to ICON fills up course storage space, but UICapture offers unlimited space and there are other ways to embed video into courses.
UICapture (Panopto)
UICapture is the recommended platform for storing and sharing video in ICON because it has unlimited storage, strong captioning capabilities, and support available to Iowa faculty, students and staff.
Embedding Media in ICON
You can embed media in ICON using the Rich Content Editor.
Linking to YouTube
You can use UICapture to embed YouTube content or embed the content directly using the Rich Content Editor.
Any existing or new YouTube videos embedded anywhere in a Canvas course may start displaying ads. These ads are controlled by YouTube and cannot be turned off.
If you choose to use YouTube content in a course, consider adding a disclaimer indicating that the video may display advertisements. For example, “Some videos may display advertisements. These ads are not affiliated with or endorsed by the University of Iowa.”
Captioning Content
In order to meet accessibility standards, videos shared from any platform should have captions.
