The Office of Teaching, Learning, and Technology facilitates or co-facilitates communities related to technology and teaching and learning data on campus. These groups provide opportunities to connect with others and learn how instructors are implementing these tools in their courses.

Technology Interest Groups

Teaching with ICON Group

Used by instructors to create, edit, and deliver online learning resources, ICON is an important communication and engagement tool in online and face-to-face courses. ICON users at all levels are welcome to attend.

Support Community for Instructional Technology

Support Community for Instructional Technology (SCIT) provides a venue for anyone who works with instructional technology at Iowa to connect with one another on best practices, emerging trends, and new instructional technology. Anyone using or supporting instructional technology is welcome to join this group.

Teaching with Top Hat Group

Use Top Hat, a student response system, to increase interaction, facilitate discussions, guide lectures, encourage peer instruction, receive immediate student feedback, and run class polls. This group is designed for anyone using or considering using Top Hat.

Data-Informed Teaching Community of Practice

This community of practice (CoP) meets three times per semester to explore student data available to UI faculty with two goals to identify barriers to student learning and to generate solutions to implement at the course or program level.
 

Generative AI in Teaching

Co-sponsored by the Office of Teaching, Learning, and Technology and the Center for Teaching, this community of practice meets monthly to explore the implications of generative AI, such as ChatGPT, in higher education. Members will discuss ideas and practices related to generative AI in the classroom.
