Looking for practical ways to increase student engagement, during class, outside of class, and across different learning spaces?
Join OTLT for our summer 2026 training series, a set of hands-on workshops designed to help instructors use academic technology tools, learning spaces, and AI thoughtfully and effectively to increase student engagement.
All sessions are at 10:30 a.m. on Thursdays in July in Library 1022. Each 90‑minute session combines brief demos, guided work time, and opportunities to share ideas. You'll leave with strategies and resources you can immediately apply in your courses.
Attend one session or join us for the full series to explore multiple ways to engage students, wherever and however learning happens.
July 9: Engage in the Moment: Interactive Tools for the Classroom
Keep students active and accountable during class with technology designed for real-time engagement. This session explores Top Hat for live polling and comprehension checks, Perusall for collaborative annotation, and Peerceptiv for structured peer review and team evaluations that deepen learning through reflection. Whether you teach in a lecture hall or a seminar, you’ll leave with practical ideas for integrating interactive tools into your teaching. Register for Engage in the Moment.
July 16: Engage on Their Time: Tools for Learning Outside Class
Extend engagement beyond class time by designing meaningful activities students can complete on their own schedules. This session focuses on Canvas Discussion Boards and Panopto. We'll highlight Discussion Board features such as multiple due dates and AI‑generated summaries that help instructors quickly gauge participation. We’ll also explore using Panopto for video‑based discussions to encourage authentic responses, reduce AI misuse, and strengthen instructor and student connections. Register for Engage on Their Time.
July 23: Engage in the Space: Teaching in TILE Classrooms
Co-sponsored by the Center for Teaching and OTLT
Step into an active learning classroom and see what’s possible. This interactive session highlights how TILE classrooms support collaboration and student‑centered teaching while giving participants time to consider how these spaces could support engagement in their own courses. All participants will be enabled to schedule TILE classrooms with the Office of the Registrar. Register for Engage in the Space.
July 30: Engage with AI: Introducing Artificial Intelligence into Your Course
AI is reshaping how students learn and how instructors teach. We’ll move beyond the hype to explore practical ways to integrate AI into your course using Microsoft Copilot. Participants will experiment with prompts, explore AI’s strengths and limitations, learn how to build a custom course chatbot, and discuss strategies for incorporating AI into assignments while preserving learning objectives. Register for Engage with AI.
