How are students and faculty navigating the world of generative AI and its implications?
Join OTLT to discover what we’re learning about students’ use of generative AI and hear from faculty members about how they're creating AI guidance for their courses. Register to attend this AI research event, which will take place on Wednesday, April 15, at 9:30 a.m. in University Capitol Centre 2520D. We’ll offer light refreshments starting at 9:15 a.m.
During the event, we’ll:
- Present data on students’ understanding of AI concepts and the broader implications of AI.
- Discuss how research is being used to guide implementation of the Department of Rhetoric's new AI literacy learning objective and a Writing-First AI-Mindful framework that protects the development of students' independent reading, speaking, and critical thinking skills.
- Share research findings on University of Iowa students’ current practices in using AI for academic tasks.
We’ll also facilitate a faculty panel discussion in which panelists share the guidance they provide to students regarding AI use in their courses—whether they permit, restrict, or conditionally allow it—and explain the reasoning behind their approaches.
