Join the Office of Teaching, Learning and Technology from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 13, for ICON Day. ICON Day will promote excellence in teaching and learning through effective adoption and use of technology at the University of Iowa. Our 2026 keynote speaker will be Claire Howell Major, PhD, a professor of Higher Education at The University of Alabama. Her talk, Choosing Active Learning Strategies to Support Deeper Student Thinking, will highlight how active learning is an instructional approach proven to support student engagement and learning outcomes across disciplines. 

Stay for lunch and an afternoon of workshops focused on exploring meaningful student engagement. Explore when and how AI can support student learning, hear directly from students about the strategies and technologies that keep them engaged, discover practical approaches for connecting learning experiences inside and outside the classroom, and learn how to build student buy-in for active learning. We’ll also honor the ICON All Stars Awards recipients. This student-nominated award celebrates the use of technology to enhance teaching and learning at Iowa and recognizes an instructor’s commitment to creating an accessible, engaging, and interactive learning environment.

Instructors: Submit your Attendance Class List no later than 5 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 24. You can view your attendance lists by "clicking" the "My Courses" link. 

Important Information:

• Contact students individually regarding attendance issues.
• To establish federal financial aid eligibility, students must complete one or more academic engagements in all registered classes during the first ten days of each semester.
• At the end of each semester, instructors must report the last date of attendance for students earning non-passing grades (AUU, F, N, U, or W) with a status of "stopped attending".
• After the deadline, attendance corrections are not available in MAUI. Email non-attendance corrections to osfa-attendance@uiowa.edu to restore Financial Aid eligibility.

 To help ensure a smooth experience for everyone, we kindly request that instructors submit grades for DEO review by Tuesday, Aug.11. Lists lacking DEO approval will result in "O" grades being entered on transcripts, indicating no grade reported.

 Off-cycle courses have ten days from the end date to submit final grades. Double-check your deadline on your My Courses dashboard.
