Basic Guide Description

Use this guide to learn more about the technology in most learning spaces on campus.

  1. To start the system, press the lectern's control panel interface on button.
  2. Select the source. The default is the room's computer.
  3. Remember to turn off the system when finished.

Most University Classrooms are equipped with a single lectern computer monitor and single projector/screen

  1. The system will use the lectern computer's primary monitor as its default source.
  2. To view or project an alternate source, such as Solstice, document camera, Blu-Ray, or HDMI, select the corresponding option on the A/V control panel interface.

If you encounter an unresponsive projector:

  1. Check that the picture mute or video mute button is not selected on the A/V control panel interface.

  1. Press the space bar on the computer keyboard to view the main display.
  2. Log in with your HawkID and password.
  3. Log out when finished.

If you can't access the computer’s log in menu:

  1. Make sure the A/V system is not muted.
  2. Check that the computer monitor is on.
  3. Check that the HDMI/display port cable is connected on the back of monitor.

Computer/web-conferencing USB microphones are typically mounted on the media lecterns and connected to the computer monitor USB hubs.

If you find a microphone that doesn't work:

  • Select microphone (USB audio CODEC) as the audio input device in Zoom, UICapture (Panopto), or Skype.
  • Unplug and re-plug the cable on the back of the USB microphone.
  • Make sure that the USB cable is firmly connected.

The learning space may be equipped with a wireless microphone, either a lavaliere and/or a handheld microphone. Wireless microphones provide audio input for the room's speakers and the lectern computer's Zoom, UICapture (Panopto), and Skype applications.

If you encounter a wireless microphone that doesn't work:

  1. Check the microphone display for power and mute.
  2. Check the microphone display for battery replacement. Rechargeable batteries are typically located on the battery charger. Alkaline batteries are typically located in the microphone drawer.
  3. If using rechargeable battery supplies, remember to replace the depleted batteries on the charger.
  4. If nearing the end of the battery supplies, contact the ITS Help Desk for resupply.
  5. Select microphone (ATR2USB) as the audio source device in the lectern computer's Zoom, UICapture (Panopto), or Skype applications.

Computer/web-conferencing USB cameras are typically mounted on the media lecterns and connected to the computer monitor USB hubs. Cameras on flexible mounts may be re-positioned as needed.

If you find a USB camera that doesn't work:

  1. Select the Huddly Go as the camera input or source in the lectern computer's Zoom, UICapture (Panopto), or Skype applications.
  2. Make sure the USB cable is connected.
  3. Unplug and re-plug the USB cable on the back of the camera.

A/V control panels either have a volume knob or touchscreen volume buttons.

  1. Turn the knob to right or press the up arrow to increase the volume, and turn the knob to the left or press the down arrow to decrease the volume.
  2. Press the picture mute or video mute button on the A/V control panel interface to control audio and screen muting.

If you can't produce in-room audio with the A/V system on:

  1. Check that the computer and application or website audio is not muted.
  2. Increase the audio level of the computer, device, application, or the A/V control panel interface.
  3. Select ExtronScalerD (Intel(R) Display Audio) or Extron HDMI (Intel(R) Display Audio) as the speaker or audio source on the device and in Zoom, UICapture (Panopto), or Skype.

  1. To display an HDMI-capable personal device, connect the HDMI cable on the media lectern to the personal device's HDMI-port.
  2. Select HDMI as the display input or source on the A/V control panel interface.
  3. Not all HDMI adapters work with every device and the A/V system. We recommend testing the HDMI connection in advance.

If you can't produce in-room video or audio with the A/V system on and not muted and HDMI selected:

  1. Increase the A/V control panel audio level.
  2. Toggle the picture mute or video mute button on the control panel interface.
  3. Restart the  A/V system.

  1. Select Blu-Ray as the display input or source on the A/V control panel interface.
  2. Press the eject or open/close button on the Blu-Ray media player disc tray or the A/V control panel interface to load a disc.
  3. The Blu-Ray media player may be controlled with the A/V control panel interface or by remote control, which is typically near the Blu-Ray media player or in the A/V rack drawer.

If you can't produce in-room video or audio from the Blu-Ray media player with the A/V system on and not muted and Blu-Ray selected:

  1. Increase the A/V control panel interface audio.
  2. Toggle the picture mute or video mute button on the A/V control panel interface.
  3. Toggle the mute button on the Blu-Ray remote control if available.
  4. Restart the A/V system.
  5. If the disc is a DVD, you can try to play it through the lectern computer's DVD drive.

Many learning space are equipped with a document camera.

  1. Select doc cam as the display input or source on the A/V control panel interface.
  2. The document camera should automatically power on.

If the document camera can't be projected with the A/V system on and not muted and doc cam selected on the A/V control panel interface:

  1. Check that the document camera has power. Typically, the power button light should turn blue when on.
  2. Check that the output cables are connected.
  3. Toggle the picture mute or video mute button on the A/V control panel interface.
  4. Restart the A/V system.

Many learning spaces are equipped with Solstice wireless collaboration and content sharing platform.

  1. Select Solstice as the source on the A/V control panel interface.

If Solstice can't be projected with the A/V system on and not muted and Solstice selected on the A/V control panel interface:

  1. Contact the ITS Help Desk.
