Join us for an ongoing conversation to discuss themes from Steele’s book, Whistling Vivaldi and how the book themes may relate to our various classroom practices.

Claude M. Steele's Whistling Vivaldi contributes to a long-standing discussion about American phenomena such as racial and gender gaps in test scores and considers strategies that may help improve learning in different classroom contexts.


Steele is a professor of Psychology and former Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost at University of California, Berkley.


Book Group Details

  • Three one-hour meetings (February – April), chosen based on majority participant availability. Participants will be asked to commit to attending all sessions.
  • Open to all campus instructors, including previous and current TAs.
  • Participants who attend all sessions will keep a personal copy of the book.
