UI Placement Exam Portal

The Placement Exam Portal is a quick and convenient way for advisers and students to access test scores from placement exams administered at UI and by national test companies. Based upon an assigned role, access is granted to varying levels of placement information. Please see our below FAQ section for further information.

Local Tests

The University of Iowa offers placement tests in mathematics, chemistry, and some world languages. Placement test results are used by academic advisers along with admission test scores (ACT and SAT), high-school transcript information and transfer credit to help students determine in which courses to enroll.

In some cases, scores from placement tests can be used to fulfill General Education Program requirements. Incentive credit opportunities are also available in the world languages and mathematics for students who score well on a placement test and do well in subsequent college courses. Scores from placement tests do not affect admission decisions.

The University of Iowa does not administer Advanced Placement exams, but we do accept AP scores for credit. Credit-granting policies are available at Liberal Arts or Engineering.

National Tests

The Academic Advising Center offers many national test programs, both computer and paper-based.

Register directly with the testing company. You will receive a confirmation of your registration including reporting time, location, and identification requirements.
