Annette is the Director of Enterprise Instructional Technology. The team provides project management, consulting and support for software and enterprise instructional technology services. This includes managing the sub-team of enterprise instructional services including the course management system, electronic portfolio project, video conferencing, student response systems, lecture capture, digital media solutions, faculty course evaluations, placement testing, proctored testing and mid-term and final exam assistance, etc. It also includes guiding the direction for an online course The Success at Iowa online course which includes modules that help incoming students prepare for their time at orientation and on campus.

 It also includes the following:

  • Building strong partnerships with administrators, faculty, staff and students
  • Ensure a high level of proven performance for teaching and learning tools

Enterprise Instructional Technology is part of a larger unit within the Office of Teaching, Learning & Technology which helps to better prepare and support faculty, instructors, and teaching assistants in both traditional teaching needs and impending opportunities such as expanded student-centered active learning outside of the TILE classrooms, flipped classrooms, community-engaged pedagogies, curricular development, and expanded online learning through hybrid courses or even MOOCs. Our staff includes specialists in instructional design, online course management, digital media, learning spaces technologies, and other instructional technologies.

  • SCIT – Support Community for Instructional Technology – Chair

  • CITL/OneIT Leaders – Campus IT Leaders – member. This group is for higher level campus IT leaders including the CIO, senior leadership in ITS and Collegiate IT Directors, this committee if where the IT strategic plans get created https://oneit.uiowa.edu/
  • ATAC – Academic Technology Advisory Council – member, mostly made of faculty. When we make big decisions on technology and teaching, we use this committee first, monthly meetings http://cio.uiowa.edu/academic-technologies-advisory-council
  • Academic Student Users Group – member, this is a very large group of mostly administrative staff who help support the academic side.

  • CCOM SCIT – member, Carver College of Medicine SCIT (similar, but a little different than above SCIT), dedicated to College of Medicine, monthly meetings

External Groups

  • Chair 2015-16 CIC (Big Ten) Academic Technology Leadership Team, this is a group of all Big Ten schools and University of Chicago. Mostly mid-level managers who meet virtually twice a year and face-to-face at rotating campuses to discuss strategies in instructional technology and pedagogy – this is a chair elect, chair, chair emeritus three-year commitment
  • Iowa Board of Regents Academic Technology Leaders – member, three in-state schools with AT leaders meeting at least once a year to discuss strategies in instructional technology and pedagogy
  • CIC/BTAA Training Group, member
  • Desire2Learn eLearning Advisory Board, member, past chair, member for 5 years dating back to LISAB group (ended membership in early 2015)

  • Unizin Teaching and Learning Committee – member, this is a long-term subgroup of the Board for Unizin. Four people from Iowa are in this group including me, Senior Director for The Office of Teaching, Learning & Technology, the Director for the Center for Teaching and the Associate Dean for Continuing Education
  • Chair – Unizin/Canvas Teaching and Learning subgroup to help facilitate conversations between Unizin and Canvas
  • Member – Subgroup for Affordable Content
  • Permanent Sub-Group for Unizin Teaching and Learning Committee: Solutions Architecture Group. Work with other Directors on enterprise instructional technology solutions related to Unizin and Canvas. 2014-2017 eliminated subgroup and replaced with Unizin/Canvas subgroup
  • Unizin Digital Media Management Task Force – member, this is a short-term committee working on strategy for digital media management for Unizin
