Pressbooks is an easy-to-use digital publishing software that can turn course materials into more accessible, flexible, and engaging learning resources. It enables instructors to organize and integrate content, including media, in a printed book format or a format designed for hand-held and mobile devices.

Instructors can create course material or customize an open educational resource (OER), free and openly licensed material that can replace or supplement textbooks or other course materials. The University Libraries recently announced the OpenHawks grant program, which will fund faculty efforts to advance OER use at the UI.

Using Pressbooks, with original content or an adopted OER, can benefit students by presenting material that has been selected and tailored to the instructional needs of that course and by being available to students on the first day of class.

Access to this tool is provided through the UI's membership in the Unizin Consortium.
