The American Music Therapy Association recently recognized two nationally known experts in music therapy education with Lifetime Achievement Awards: University of Iowa Clinical Professor of Music Therapy Mary Adamek and the late Professor of Neurology at New York University School of Medicine and best-selling author, Oliver Sacks.

Adamek was recognized for her “exceptional and extensive” service enhancing the education of students and the professional development of her peers. A faculty member in the School of Music, Adamek directs the undergraduate music therapy program and is the co-author of the leading work on music in special education.

UI undergraduate Kara Masteller’s interview with her grandfather was featured by Storycorps for an audience of millions on National Public Radio’s Morning Edition on November 20, 2015. Masteller’s interview was the first recorded with the new Storycorps mobile phone app to be featured on NPR. Masteller conducted her interview for a project assigned in Creativity for a Lifetime, an interdisciplinary-taught Big Ideas course in which students explore the role of arts and creativity across the lifespan. 

The University of Iowa Council on Teaching invites nominations for the 27th annual Outstanding Teaching Assistant Award for 2015 - 2016. This award recognizes teaching assistants who have demonstrated outstanding ability as teachers at the University of Iowa. Nomination materials must be received by March 7th, 2016.
