OTLT Welcomes New Staff

Please join us in welcoming two new staff members to the Office of Teaching, Learning & Technology (OTLT).

As a Learning Analytics Specialist on the Research and Assessment Team for OTLT, Yu Zhao (who also goes by “Tracy”) will conduct research and assessment for the Learning Design Collaboratory; A new program to marshal significant University of Iowa resources to improve student academic success through course and curricular design, particularly in large-lecture courses. Yu will also help expand the adoption of learning analytics interventions at Iowa.

Yu earned a Ph.D. in Educational Measurement and a concurrent Master’s degree in Applied Statistics from Pennsylvania State University. Most recently, Yu worked at Kirkwood Community College as an institutional researcher. Trained in a variety of research methods, she has expertise in research design, data analysis, and educational assessment.

Yu enjoys spending time with her daughter and son, and particularly enjoys traveling with her family.

We also would like to welcome Ania Kowalik to the Office of Teaching, Learning & Technology as a Teaching and Learning Specialist in the Center for Teaching. In her new role, Ania will primarily focus on helping launch the Learning Design Collaboratory, in particular supporting the cohorts of Collaboratory faculty members to enhance their professional development through workshops, Faculty Learning Communities, and consultation.

Ania recently completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Georgia Institute of Technology where she supported the professional development of faculty and TAs and developed instructional resources for face-to-face and online courses. She has also worked as an instructional services coordinator at Georgia Southern University, and while earning a Ph.D. in Comparative Literature at Emory University Ania was a staff member in that school’s teaching center. She has a particular interest in the scholarship of teaching and learning and the support of faculty members from underrepresented groups.

During her time off, Ania is an avid reader and enjoys hiking, biking, and live music.

Please stop by the OTLT Center for Teaching and OTLT Assessment and Research offices in 2080 UCC, above Hills Bank and welcome our new staff members.
