The Office of Teaching, Learning & Technology (OTLT) debuted on July 1, 2014 when three campus support groups were merged to streamline and improve teaching support for UI faculty and TAs. The new Office now seamlessly provides teaching support from a wide range of services and systems.

The group’s activities are validating the decision to create the OTLT. Cross-unit teams offer faculty institutes to improve the classroom experience for students and to introduce innovations such as game-based learning. The staff completed a major upgrade to ICON, which is providing easier-to-use interfaces and new tools.

Staff and faculty worked together to pilot a new online course evaluation system, and the assessment staff has researched and identified ways to improve student outcomes at Iowa. They are sharing those findings across the country. We have created a new, more comprehensive web site, and this newsletter is the first of our regular publications on teaching and learning at Iowa.

In a brief time, this group has exceeded my expectations, and I anticipate the creation and development of even more exciting strategies and initiatives in the coming year. The OTLT was created to support you; I hope that many of you will reach out to me with your feedback and ideas in the coming months.
