Two new TILE-Lite classrooms will join the UI general assignment classroom pool for fall 2015. The new spaces will support student-centered, active-learning TILE pedagogy that will not depend on the more robust technology in classic TILE rooms such as 350 Van Allen and Library 1140 and 1022.
These new spaces enable active student engagement with tablet armchairs on casters that can be arranged in small groups, supplemented by wall-to-wall whiteboards. In addition, the rooms can easily be rearranged into a more traditional classroom with chair rows as needed for lecture or testing.
The rooms will be equipped with technology standard in general assignment classrooms (Windows PC, Document Camera, Blu-ray player) as well as multiple projection screens for ease of viewing.
“We feel these new TILE-Lite classrooms will complement our efforts to support faculty and student engagement moving forward,” says Renee Houser, Senior Associate Registrar and co-chair of the Learning Spaces Advisory Committee.
Classroom Scheduling and the Office of Teaching, Learning & Technology are looking for TILE-enabled instructors interested in utilizing these flexible learning spaces for their courses starting the fall semester.
