Canvas Commons logo

Canvas Commons is a learning object repository that enables educators to find, import, and share content in the following Canvas tools: course presentation modules, quizzes, assignments, discussions, pages or documents.

Users can share resources with other Canvas Commons users with the public or only within their own institutions or they can opt to keep their Commons files private.

Canvas Commons also enables users to apply a Creative Commons (cc) license to any object added to the Commons database. A Creative Commons license is a simple, standardized process the enables users to both share and protect creative work.

The University of Iowa Canvas Commons space is available in ICON for all users with a Teacher or TA account.

University educators have used Canvas Commons to share:

  • Syllabus templates
  • Course template (for colleges, departments, or programs)
  • Course home page template
  • Module template
  • Accessibility Module or Page
  • Orientation Modules
  • Summative assessments
