The Office of Teaching, Learning & Technology (OTLT) introduced Top Hat, a student response system, and Kaltura, an online media platform, to campus last spring. If you’ve considered incorporating either into your course or are curious about their capabilities, OTLT has several upcoming workshops for you to learn more.

Top Hat

Top Hat is an all-in-one teaching platform that assists in creating an interactive classroom environment by giving instructors the option to select from 14 question types such as multiple choice, short answer, matching, sorting, and click-on-target.

It is fully integrated with ICON, including an automated process for updating your ICON rosters and grades, and its open education resource capabilities allow for easy customization and delivery of low-cost or no-cost textbooks.

With Kaltura, users can store, publish, and stream media—including audio files, videos, and images—with no special software required to view media uploaded to the platform. Kaltura’s features make it easier to capture, edit, and caption videos.

Students and instructors can use the Kaltura integration in ICON to upload and share videos within their ICON course. Instructors also can organize media into playlists, create video quizzes, and view analytics about how their students are engaging with videos in the course.
