About one in four undergraduates at the University of Iowa are first-generation students (from families with parents or legal guardians who have not completed a bachelor’s degree).  While first-generation students may experience college differently than their peers, the UI is committed to supporting and acknowledging their numerous accomplishments.

This year, the UI is celebrating the successes of first-generation students by joining campuses across the country in the second annual First-Generation College Student Celebration Day on November 8, 2018. To celebrate, there will be a week of events geared towards faculty, staff and students, including a film screening and facilitated discussion of the award-winning documentary First Generation (2011) and a range of other opportunities hosted by departments and offices from across campus.
