Objectives

Participants in the Course Design Institute will: 

  • Articulate their personal teaching philosophies
  • Apply effective strategies for course design
  • Create a plan for the various elements of their course and how those elements will align 

Benefits and Incentives

  • Hands-on guidance in the process of developing or revising a course, including focusing course content, developing assessments, and creating effective learning experiences
  • Professional development and networking
  • Fresh perspectives from colleagues in other departments
  • Opportunities for continued consultation and support beyond the Institute, including an assigned Student Instructional Technology Assistant (SITA) for help with teaching technologies. 

Schedule

All participants are expected to attend the entire Institute, which will be held in University Capitol Centre

Monday, May 22, 9:00am-3:00pm

Tuesday, May 23, 9:00am-3:00pm

Wednesday, May 24, 9:00am-3:00pm 

A light breakfast and a lunch will be provided each day.

How to Apply

  • Any faculty member (clinical-track, tenure-track, lecturer, visiting, or adjunct) at The University of Iowa who wishes to design or substantially revise a course is eligible to apply to be a part of the Course Design Institute. 
  • Applicants must have approval of their DEOs.

Early Career Instructors are defined as pre-tenure instructors (clinical-track, tenure-track, lecturers, and adjuncts) in their first three years of teaching at The University of Iowa.
