Chemistry Diagnostic Test CDT

The Chemistry Diagnostic Test CDT is intended to help you and your advisor(s) make a decision about which UI chemistry course is appropriate for your needs considering your background and academic goals.

Introductory Chemistry Courses

The CDT provides a score that will help you decide whether CHEM:1070 or CHEM:1110 is your best starting point in chemistry. A few majors require CHEM:1070; many others require CHEM:1110. Based on their placement scores, many students take the CHEM:1070 course to supplement their high school chemistry preparation before taking CHEM:1110. Thus, the recommendation for the first chemistry course at Iowa may be CHEM:1070 even though you have had a high school course and even though your major or career plans may require CHEM:1110.
